On May 20, 2020 Johnson & Johnson announced it would discontinue selling its most iconic product- baby powder.
The talcum product used by millions of people, most of whom were not babies, created the pharmaceutical giant.
This decision to recall comes after yet another study found in October of 2019 that asbestos was found in the talc.
This follows years of litigation and lawsuits in which Johnson & Johnson has denied repeatedly that its product causes ovarian cancer despite supporting documents found in its own internal files from more than thirty years ago.
“From at least 1971 to the early 2000s, the company’s raw talc and finished powders sometimes tested positive for small amounts of asbestos, and that company executives, mine managers, scientists, doctors and lawyers fretted over the problem and how to address it while failing to disclose it to regulators or the public,” Reuters reported.
Johnson & Johnson faces more than 16,000 talc-related lawsuits nationwide.
